2012 Mission to Peru

Quechua Benefits 2012 Mission to Peru
&
The opening of the Snowmass Health Center

Fourteen members of the 2012 Quechua Benefit mission traveled to six towns in the Colca Valley on a rotating basis and they inaugurated the Snowmass Health Center with 6 days of continuous operation. They were accompanied by 3 Peruvian doctors and dentists.

Patients were brought to the Snowmass clinic on a daily basis by the mayors from 4 additional towns. In total 10 towns were served with medical and dental care. A total of 1450 patients were cared for: all of the services were provided for free.

The response to the opening of the Snowmass clinic was overwhelming and the fact that 864 patients were served in the clinic alone will go a long way to establishing the Quechua Benefit mission on a permanent basis in the minds of the Quechua people in the valley.

None of this could have bee accomplished without you generous donations.

Bill Beranek, Dr. Rhonda Deschner, Deborah Bailey RN and Mario Garcia led this year’s team. They were each part of an advance team that left several days early to prepare the Snow Mass clinic for opening. The following Americans team members rounded out the United States team: Richard Miller, Dr Mindy Wilson, Dr Jim Anderson, Shellie Clarke RN, Dr Jim Gallagher, Dr Amber Stroupe, Dr Sonja Vindheim, Dr Emily Brunner, Nick and Heidi Skinner. The Peruvian team was made up of Quechua Benefits manager in Peru Alejandro Tejada, Executive Secretary Sandra Carbajal and Casa Chapi Supervisor Blanca Quispe and Dr Javier Abarca, Dr Ernesto Chocano Polar and Dr Christian Nunez Fernandez.

The Grand opening of the Snowmass Health Center was attended by more than 50 Valley dignitaries and Nick and Heidi Skinner of Snowmass Alpacas. Father Marcos of the Catholic Diocese in Chivay blessed the clinic at the beginning of the ceremony. It was a proud moment for all and the culmination of three years of hard work and more than $500,000 of donations from the alpaca community.
