Peru is a Sight to See
Peru is a country of extremes, from the floor of the Amazon River valley to the tips of the Andes Mountains and down to the Pacific Ocean there are 45 climatic zones, countless exotic birds, Capybara, the cousins of rats weigh 200 pounds and live with black Jaguars and Anacondas in the vast jungle.
- Colca Valley & Canyon – Explore Peru’s epic Colca Canyon, the world’s second deepest canyon. Watch giant Andean condors rise on the morning thermals, hike down breathtaking trails, raft the Colca River, visit the town of Chivay, and unwind in hot springs. (And visit Casa Chapi, of course.)
- Arequipa, Peru – Enjoy fine dining on decks overlooking the beautiful Plaza de Armas, view the Mummy Juanita and ancient artifacts at the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries, shop for more alpaca clothing and blankets than you could possibly imagine, and take a tour through the gorgeous Santa Catalina Monastery. - Sillustani Tombs – The funerary towers (or chullpas) of the pre-Incan Colla people stand out on the hillside above Lake Umayo. These elaborate tombs were reserved for nobility, and are considered to be even more complicated than Incan stonework.
- Nazca, Peru – The Nazca Lines are one of the world’s great mysteries. Who created them, and how? The theories are endless. Go see them for yourself!
- Lake Titicaca – Lake Titicaca in Puno, Peru is the largest lake in South America, and the highest navigable body of water in the world. In Andean belief, Titicaca is the birthplace of the sun. The Uru people, who inhabit the lake, live in on floating reed islands in communities of a few (or even up to ten) families.
- Macusani, Peru – The capital of the Carabaya Province in Puno. This town is a must for the adventurous travelers who love alpacas! The gateway to the legendary Estancia Accoyo.
- Manu Biosphere Reserve – This 5,792 square mile World Heritage Site is not to be missed! The immense variation in microclimates makes this national park a globally-renowned beacon of biodiversity. In this meeting point of the Tropical Andes and the Amazonian lowland forests, you will find giant otters, jaguar, puma, 13 primate species, birds and butterflies in every color of the rainbow, and so much more.
- Machu Picchu – The #1 destination on nearly everyone’s bucket list. This mysterious Incan masterpiece was built in the 15th century, then abandoned and went unknown until Hiram Bingham led an expedition to uncover the site in 1912. Truly a wonder to behold!
